Frames and Stretchers had the honor of framing the MAZACCIO & DROWILAL solo show at the French Institute : Alliance Française in New York City. The Alliance approach to us with a short deadline and requiring top conservation materials and we accept the challenge. The duo brought to us a series of photos, silk screens and collages. The result was gorgeous. And of course, the curator François Hébel did an amazing job at the Gallery. Congratulations !

By repurposing images from popular media, this caustic young pair of French photographers forces us to reconsider the subliminal messages we generally try to ignore. Creating deliciously ironic original images, they illustrate photographic clichés using strong colors and bold collages. Following acclaimed exhibitions in Arles, Paris, and Los Angeles, this show marks their New York debut.

About MAZACCIO & DROWILAL
When Elise Mazac (b. 1988, France) and Robert Drowilal (b. 1986, France) met in 2006, both found inspiration in conceptual art, cinema, and American and Japanese photography. Taking pleasure in sharing creative projects, they formed their collective identity, Mazaccio & Drowilal, working together during photo shoots and in selecting and editing images. Their approach to photography has been markedly influenced by their individual experiments with collage, photomontage and the digital. The duo have exhibited at Paramount Studios in LA, Colette Paris, Palais des Beaux-Arts Paris, and Les Rencontres des Arles; in addition, they have published several books together including Paparazzis (2012), Wild Style (2014), and Champagne (2015).
