Opening Reception: Thursday September 24, 2015 5-7pm
The ClementeLES Gallery 1st floor
107 Suffolk Street
NY, NY 10002
New York, NY-- The Clemente is pleased to announce "Above Ground-40
Moments of Transformation," a photography exhibition of young feminist
activism in China. Co-hosted by China Rights in Action, Feminist Task Force, and
Asian American Arts Centre. Feminism advocates for freedom from restrictive sex
roles and the inclusion of all gestures in its push for gender equality and the fight for social, cultural, economic and political rights. "Above ground — 40 Moments of Transformation" documents Chinese young activists’ impressive actions against stigma, discrimination and violence among women. Public space is their battleground, where the fight can spark dialogues in the public arena, but visibility also leads those fighters to danger. The exhibition frames moments when those young Chinese feminist activists elevate their determination to transform China into a gender equal country.
The exhibition is open daily from 3:30pm - 7pm
