OPEN CALL FOR ART - COMMUNITY TALENT SHOWCASE
February 01, 2016
Frames and Stretchers would like to recognize, show and frame the artwork of talented people from the community. If you are an amateur artist (never showed in a gallery) with passion for painting or drawing and living or working in The Lower East Side, please send us images or suggest someone else to info@framesandstretchers.com.
COMMUNITY TALENT SHOWCASE @ The Clemente, 3rd floor (right outside Frames and Stretchers). We aim to feature the talent of various community members throughout the year.
Maria Tavarez Our first talent
Originally from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Maria Tavarez has been painting since childhood. She pursued art studies at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in the Dominican capital.
Her work is mostly figurative although Tavarez has experimented with abstraction. Among her inspirations are: the human figure, portraiture, landscapes of Quisqueya (Dominican Republic), Surrealism and Cubism. On her spare time, she is working on a series of Surrealist and Cubist oils.
Maria moved to NY at the beginning of the millennium and now resides in El Barrio. In NY, she has worked in various areas including the garment industry. Maria is a vital part of the Clemente team, bringing to the maintenance of this beautiful building her aesthetic sense and caring, lending special attention to our growing plant collection. (She loves them! )
