The Market: Art & Design art fair runs from July 6-9 at the Bridgehamptom Museum in Bridegehampton, Long Island. The highlight of the summer art season in the Hamptons, The Market features over sixty international gallery booths. Among them is Villa del Arte, a Barcelona, Spain based gallery who approached us to stretch six large paintings by British artist Danny O’Connor for exhibition at the fair.

O’Connor, who is also known professionally as DOC, is a painter based in Liverpool, UK. He was trained in graphic design at the Liverpool School of Art and Design at John Moores University and his work exhibits strong graphic elements. O’Connor says he likes the juxtaposition of fluid curving lines and strong angular elements. His work is generally figurative and intensely colorful. He draws his inspiration from a very wide variety of sources including: comics, illustration, tattoo art and graffiti as well as Abstract Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Art Nouveau, Modernism and Constructivism. He also works with an extensive array of media and application materials. “….correction fluid, spray paint, ink, paint markers, texture pastes, charcoal, graphite, oil sticks and Collage. All applied in an equally diverse manner using brushes, fingers, paint rollers, sticks, paper and cardboard to drip, splash, spray, print and stroke the paint onto the surface.” * His goal is to create an almost futuristic image while maintaining a connection to traditional painting practices. The result is an appealing aesthetic that has earned him commercial success as well as exhibition alongside contemporary street art luminaries like Banksy and Adam Neate.
