It was very exciting for us to receive original artwork by the American visual artist Matthew McCormick. Themes in McCormick’s work portray reimagined landscapes of Americana—often incorporating western iconography reminiscent of Hollywood, cowboys, and redrawn advertisements and cartoons. The quality of line, and seemingly ambiguous threshold between digitization and reinterpretation of archived materials sets a specific backdrop to absorb into, such as with the techincolor sunsets that pierce through the backgrounds of McCormick’s drawings, paintings and prints.
Subtly, McCormick uses digital design and screenprinting techniques to accentuate the natural aging processes on paper, though he will manipulate the illusion of time’s effect on a print by playing up pastels and evening tones as though the piece has its own shadow and dimensionality. These melancholic works by McCormick touch upon childhood, movies and myth-making of the American Wild West; all important components that tie into the larger scope of the artwork's reflection on gender identity, media culture and sexuality. It was an honor to create the best custom gallery white floater frame in New York for Matthrew McCormick's stunning artwork.
