At Frames and Stretchers, we believe luxury deserves preservation. One of the most elegant and personal ways to showcase fine textile art is through the custom framing of Hermès scarves. Known for their intricate designs, vibrant colors, and rich heritage, Hermès scarves deserve more than to sit folded in a drawer—they deserve to be admired daily.
Across both our New York City and Miami studios, we’ve completed countless Hermès scarf framing projects using museum-quality materials and archival techniques. Whether it’s a gift, heirloom, or personal favorite, we help clients transform their scarves into works of art ready to be hung and preserved for generations.
Hermès scarves are more than accessories—they’re collectible textile masterpieces. Each design tells a story, hand-drawn by world-renowned illustrators and screen-printed with up to 46 individual colors. Given their fragility and value, framing is one of the best ways to protect them while displaying their artistry.
Our clients often frame Hermès scarves for:
- Home or office decor
- Preserving sentimental or rare pieces
- Creating gallery walls of fashion and art
- Gifts for special occasions
- Museum or retail display
At Frames and Stretchers, we specialize in conservation framing methods that do not alter or damage the scarf in any way. Each piece is handled with the utmost care by our in-house team of expert framers trained in fine art preservation.
How We Frame Hermès Scarves:
UV Acrylic or PlexiBox Options: To protect against sun damage and fading, we use UV-filtering acrylic. Clients may opt for a modern plexibox case or a classic shadowbox style, both of which keep the scarf safely enclosed.
Conservation Materials: Acid-free backing, cotton rag mats, and museum-grade UV glazing help protect against moisture, pollution, and discoloration.
Tailored Aesthetic: We offer custom frame designs, including French mats, lacquer finishes, and floating or bordered layouts that complement your space and the design of the scarf.
Here are a few examples of past Hermès scarf framing projects completed at our NYC and Miami locations. Each frame was custom built with the same guiding principles: preserve the textile, highlight the design, and elevate the entire viewing experience.
This bold and whimsical Hermès scarf, titled Funny Ice Cream, was framed inside a sleek, modern plexibox. The scarf was sewn by hand onto an archival white cotton backing to maintain a crisp and flat presentation. We used a deep navy blue acrylic frame with red detailing to complement the vivid colors in the artwork. UV acrylic protects it from fading, while the frameless face provides a contemporary look ideal for both homes and retail spaces.
This intricately detailed Hermès scarf features a dreamlike rainbow landscape filled with architectural elements and botanical details. For this project, we used a mint green lacquered shadowbox to enhance the lightness and vibrancy of the design. A subtle yellow fillet inside the white mat adds depth and contrast, while UV-protective acrylic ensures the colors remain brilliant for years.
This scarf features a classic Hermès equestrian theme with rich blue panels and intricate horse illustrations. We framed it in an orange-painted wood shadowbox that subtly echoes the signature Hermès orange. A white mat and blue-lined border keep the presentation refined yet eye-catching. As always, the scarf was sewn with invisible archival thread to a neutral linen backing.
Mounting Techniques
All Hermès scarves we frame are always carefully stitched to an acid-free matboard using invisible, archival thread—never glued or pinned. Depending on the artwork’s condition and desired final look, we offer a few different approaches to mounting:
In some cases, we add a foamboard to the back of the scarf and gently stretch it around the edges. This helps smooth out wrinkles and gives the scarf a clean, slightly dimensional presentation.
Other times, we use a spacer float method, where the scarf is displayed edge-to-edge, reaching the inner frame sides for a sleek, modern effect while remaining fully visible.
Whether you're in NYC or Miami, our team at Frames and Stretchers will walk you through every step of the scarf framing process—from choosing a frame style to final installation.
