Alex Katz is a contemporary art legend and we were thrilled when a collector recently brought us an original signed Katz print to custom frame! This print is a very subtle composition from an artist known for their figurative work. It is reminiscent of his early works and of his collage pieces. The green of this abstract landscape print immediately suggested a green stained molding and we worked in collaboration with the team at Quattro Frameworks to produce the perfect design. We chose a closed corner hardwood maple molding stained with a color called Olive Wood to reflect the color of the print. The frame was then finished with a beautiful glazed white gold leaf applied over a red clay base. Just look at the details in these photos!

Katz is a true American artist. Born in Brooklyn to Russian Jewish immigrant parents, he was raised in Queens and attended Woodrow Wilson High School where he was able to dedicate a significant part of his studies to the arts. After high school, he attended the Cooper Union and spent residencies at the Skowhegan School in Maine. Katz first began exhibiting in the 1950s and his early works reflect an affiliation with the abstraction of the period. Beginning in the 1970s he focused and portraits and figurative works. These subjects continue to be key in his contemporary work.

In the 1980s Katz was given retrospectives at the Whitney Museum and Brooklyn Museum. The Brooklyn show specifically focused on the artist’s prints. His star status is as solid today as it ever was. Katz has been exhibited and collected widely. Notable exhibition venues include the Tate and Saatchi Collection in London and The Metropolitan Museum of Art here in New York.

After the print was framed the Art Delivery Van team was assigned the task of transporting the work and installing it in the client’s home alongside many other great works. Congratulations to the happy collector!
